1. Hibernation in summer

The teacher told the pupils about the bear hibernating in winter.  After explaining it to the children she said:

“Can you tell me of another animal that hibernates?”

A little boy’s hand went up, and the teacher said: “Well, Tommy, you may answer.”

“Santa Claus,” said Tommy, “only he does it in the summer time.”

2. His mistake

A nearsighted man lost his hat in a strong wind. He ran after it. A woman shouted from a nearby farmhouse.

“What are you doing there?”

“Getting my hat,” he answered.

“Your hat!” exclaimed the woman. “That is our little black hen you are running after!”

3. A visitor.

A man was on a visit to a friend in London and stayed there much longer than he was expected. Time passed, but the visitor made no attempt to leave. At last his friend dropped a little hint.

“Don’t you think,” he said, “that your wife and children want to see you again?

“Thank you very much,” was the answer. “It is very kind of you. I’ll send for them and ask them to come”

4. Two Americans in Spain

Two American tourists were travelling in Spain. One morning they came to a little restaurant for lunch. They did not know Spanish and the waiter did not know English at all. They wanted to have some milk and sandwiches. They said the word “milk” several times. But the waiter did not understand.

At last one of them took a piece of paper and began to draw a cow.

The waiter looked at the drawing, smiled and went away.

“Well do you see how easy it is to make people understand you when you can draw? It is the best thing to do when you are in a foreign country. “ said the American.

After some time the waiter came again, but he did not bring any milk. Instead he put two tickets for a bull-fight on their table.
